Emporio Armani is an Italian luxury ready-to-wear brand established in 1981 as the second mainline of Giorgio Armani SpA. The parent company was founded in Milan in 1975 by Giorgio Armani and his partner architect Sergio Galeotti (reportedly funded by the $700 sale of Armani's Volkswagen Beetle). Giorgio Armani died on 4 September 2025 at the age of 91. His succession plan instructs the Giorgio Armani Foundation (established 2016) and heirs to sell an initial 15% stake to a preferred luxury group - LVMH, L'Oréal, or EssilorLuxottica - within 18 months, with the option for the buyer to acquire up to 54.9% over three to five years; the Foundation must retain at least 30% to safeguard brand independence. Emporio Armani and the Giorgio Armani mainline were the only two RTW brands designed by Giorgio Armani himself; both show at Milan Fashion Week. Emporio Armani sells exclusively through freestanding Emporio Armani stores and the official website. The broader Armani group is Italy's second-largest fashion group behind Prada (2017). YAML parent_company "fossil-group" is incorrect - Fossil Group holds only the Giorgio Armani Orologi watch licence (from 2014); Giorgio Armani SpA is independently owned. YAML location "United States" is incorrect - Italian company, Milan HQ. Both YAML fields preserved as found.
Giorgio Armani's signature direction centred on clean tailoring, fluid fabrics, and restraint - removing shoulder pads from men's suits, drawing men's tailoring vocabulary into women's dress. He was the first fashion brand to close runway shows to the public during COVID-19 (February 2020). All Italian production plants converted to medical overall production by March 2020. The brand went fur-free across all labels in 2016. Post-Armani creative direction has not been documented in the available source.
The Armani group's brand architecture spans: Armani Privé (made-to-order/couture; haute jewellery); Giorgio Armani (high-end RTW); Emporio Armani (trends-focused RTW, est. 1981); EA7 (sportswear sub-label of Emporio Armani - kit supplier for SSC Napoli and Olimpia Milano basketball club; Reebok collaboration 2004); Armani Exchange (A|X, accessible/street-chic, est. 1991 USA, 270 stores in 31 countries, fully acquired 2014); Armani Junior (est. 1979) + Armani Baby; Giorgio Armani Neve (ski wear, est. 1995, relaunched 2022); Giorgio Armani Orologi (watches, est. 1997, Fossil Group licence 2014); Armani/Casa (furniture and home, est. 2000, fabrics via Rubelli, furniture via Molteni Group, 183 stores); Armani/Dolci (confectionery, est. 2002, Guido Gobino/Venchi collaboration, 152 stores); Armani/Fiori (florist service, est. 2000); Armani/Hotels (Dubai Burj Khalifa 2010, Milan Via Manzoni 2011, with Emaar Properties); Armani/Privé Club (Milan, Dubai). The company's strategy from the 1990s shifted from licensing to in-house production (Antinea 1990, Simint 1996, Intai 1998, I Guardi footwear JV 2002; GFT Zegna JV for Collezioni men's 2000). Five megastores designed by Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas: Milan/Manzoni (2000), Hong Kong/Chater House (2002), Munich/Fünf Höfe (2003), Tokyo/Ginza Tower (2007), New York/Fifth Avenue (2009). HQ: former Nestlé chocolate factory in Milan's Savona/Tortona area, redesigned by architect Tadao Ando (2001).

Emporio Armani occupies the accessible luxury tier within the Armani group - above Armani Exchange (street-chic, accessible) and below the Giorgio Armani mainline (high-end RTW). It positions itself as trend-focused and modern within a consistent Milan Fashion Week calendar. The Armani group is Italy's second-largest fashion house. Post-Armani succession, the potential acquisition by LVMH or other luxury groups would significantly change the brand's market positioning trajectory.
