Gucci (formally Guccio Gucci S.p.A.) is an Italian luxury fashion house founded in Florence in 1921 by Guccio Gucci (1881-1953), who had worked at the Savoy Hotel in London and the Compagnie des Wagons-Lits before returning to Florence to open a leather goods workshop on Via della Vigna Nuova. The house grew from leather luggage and accessories into one of the world's highest-revenue luxury brands. After a prolonged family feud and Investcorp acquisition (1993), the brand was revived under CEO Domenico De Sole and creative director Tom Ford from 1994. In 1999, French group Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (now Kering) acquired a controlling stake following a competitive struggle with LVMH. In 2024, Gucci operated 529 stores with 20,032 employees, generating €7.65 billion in revenue. YAML location "United States" is incorrect - Italian brand, Florence HQ; YAML preserved as found.
Gucci's design language has cycled through distinct creative eras, each with a defined surface vocabulary: Guccio Gucci's artisan leather and wartime textile innovation; 1960s jet-set glamour; 1980s family-era mass production; Tom Ford's 1970s-archive sensuality (Porno Chic); Frida Giannini's neo-classic bohemian; Alessandro Michele's maximalist Renaissance romanticism; Sabato de Sarno's pragmatic edit; and Demna Gvasalia's repositioning (2025). Each era has generated a distinct SPD reference vocabulary with lasting commercial influence.
