Moschino was founded in Milan in 1983 by Franco Moschino (1950-1994) under the holding company Moonshadow. Moschino studied at Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan (1968-1971), freelanced as a design sketcher for Versace (1971-1977), and designed for Italian house Cadette until 1982. He launched "Moschino Couture!" in 1983, building a reputation for colourful, witty, and provocative designs. Franco died of HIV/AIDS-related causes in September 1994. Rossella Jardini served as creative director 1994-2013. Moschino joined Aeffe S.p.A. in 1999; Aeffe gained full control in July 2021 by acquiring the remaining 30% stake for €66.6M ($78.51M). Jeremy Scott was creative director October 2013-March 2023. Davide Renne was appointed in October 2023 and died in November 2023 at age 46. Adrian Appiolaza (from Loewe, CSM graduate) was appointed January 2024. YAML parent_company "aeffe" is correct. Franco Moschino established a campy, socially aware aesthetic that incorporated Pop art, social criticism of the fashion industry, and witty graphic surface provocation. Rossella Jardini maintained the brand's eccentricity. Jeremy Scott (2013-2023) amplified the Pop art direction into cultural spectacle - McDonald's, The Sims, Barbie - making graphic surface appropriation the brand's most visible output. Adrian Appiolaza (from January 2024) brings a Loewe-trained, CSM-educated background; his direction is documented but not yet detailed in this source.
