Elpis Karathanasi is a Greek graphic designer and illustrator working primarily in children's book illustration, paper collage, and mixed-media handmade design. Based in Greece, she has self-published a picture book on Amazon and been longlisted for the dpictus Unpublished Picturebook Showcase. Surface pattern work appears as an additional strand, developed through formal training.

Elpis combines cut-paper collage, acrylics, and gouache with digital illustration, producing work with a tactile, handmade quality. Her children's book work features narrative figurative compositions; her surface pattern training work shows simpler figurative repeat motifs - boats and expressive faces - suggesting a more graphic, character-led approach to pattern.

Primary techniques are paper collage (cut-paper, glue), acrylics, gouache, colour pencils, and graphite. She also works digitally. Her picture books use handmade collage methods. Participation in the Make It In Design Summer School 2018 introduced her to repeat construction and textile/surface design fundamentals.

Her primary market is children's book illustration. Published work includes "Raven, the Bringer of Light" (Amazon) and the longlisted picturebook "Babylonica" (dpictus). She has submitted designs to competition briefs including the Victorinox Limited Edition 2021. Surface pattern work is currently at an early/training stage rather than commercial production.

Elpis studied graphic design and illustration and has maintained a practice centred on children's picture book work. She participated in the Make It In Design Summer School 2018, producing her first surface pattern designs. Her picturebook career has advanced through international showcases and Amazon self-publication.
